Gustavo Arnal, the beleaguered home goods retailer Bed Bath & Beyond’s chief financial officer, died on Friday. He died at age 52.
He was hired in 2020 to help stabilise the company, which needed to expand its offerings to meet shopper demand in a retail sector disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the New York Police Department, Mr Arnal died in what appeared to be a suicide.
He was discovered near his home, 56 Leonard Street, a skyscraper known as the Jenga building due to its stacked architectural design, and “appeared to suffer from injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated position,” according to police.
According to the statement, emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead on the scene, and the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating how he died.
